I imagine you had a problem with Ventura doing it last season?

It's not my thing but who cares. Let players be themselves.

He's yapping at himself not others.

For all the tradition of Opening Day, thr WWL passed on the Reds? And no presidential opener today?

Pitcher batting eighth: the new orthodoxy? I know the Cubs and Mets have been doing it, and today the Giants and Brewers both are.

Nats are in Atlanta, but the Orioles are at home.

The Giants should move that particular pitcher up.

Even with Bumgarner's hitting, the Giants may not have gotten that run otherwise.

LaRussa used to do this. I'd be open to seeing some statistical evaluation of it, but I have to imagine it would hurt more than it would help. It allows the opposing pitcher to bat around your seventh hitter, who is ostensibly slightly more dangerous than your eighth hitter. Your pitchers will end up with about 16 more plate appearances per season than batting ninth, which is not a lot, but I'd say it's a pretty good rule that the less often your pitchers bat, the better.

Brewers inning ends when Angel Pagan's ultra-strong four-hop throw from left field nails Scooter Gennett trying to score from second on a single. It's like he was running in the snow.

I am sure Uecker is breaking out the story of when he got thrown out trying to score from second on a triple.
