Former boss was very generous. She would agree to newsroom pizza pretty much once a month. No special reason. Just to be nice. Unfortunately, she had strange tastes. Once she ordered a pizza that was nothing but cheese and olives. And she was fond of ordering pizzas with artichoke. But when you're getting free pizza so often, you let it go. BTW, no one touched that olive pizza.

Pepperoni and olive is a great pizza topping combination, but it's got to be kalamata olives.

I am glad I could start this dialogue, and I am inspired by all the PMs from posters, be they noobs or prominent personalties, thanking me for broaching the contentious olives debate.

Did some of them call it a game changer?

Thank you for your sacrifice, Donnie.

I love green olives, black olives (though they sometimes taste kind of tinny from the can) and kalamata olives. Once bought these big, green olives stuffed with cheese and they were terrible. Like the cheese stole all the olive taste.

  7. I hate trying to order pizza with anyone, muchless a group. I'll eat anything on a pizza. But there's always someone who doesn't like something(s).. so you end up with a cheese pizza, maybe, MAYBE with half pepperoni.

Can you imagine trying to achieve world peace by ordering a couple of pizzas?

When I was little, I couldn't wait to be an adult so that a) I could live next door to a bakery and have fresh bread throughout the day and b) I could eat a can of black olives every day.

Sadly, I have yet to fulfill either of those childhood dreams. But I still do love bread and black olives.

I love tapas places that serve olive plates (usually with a nice bread, Dyno) with assortments of Spanish and French olives -- Calamante, Cerignola and Nicoise are favorites. I don't like the shriveled up ones like Nyon.

That's as bad as your stance on abortion.

This is a food rant. You can probably find abortion rants on other threads, Mr. S.

When I was little, a place named Antonio's in Tottenville, on Staten Island, made a pizza with sliced meatballs that has, for 35 years, continued to put to shame every pizza I've ever had.
