No, I think he means Cruz's policy positions from foreign affairs to domestic economy are not just ill-considered (which they are) but full-on batshit crazy.

 

You don't have to be a "religious nut" to do that. All presidents -- hell, all politicians -- do it to some degree, and it's not necessarily a bad thing considering morality is what keeps us from devolving into an anarchistic hell hole.

 

I thought I did, but if I must. For all the talk about how wonky hrc is, cruz, for all his faults, knows his policy better than any of them.

 

I think he's a very smart guy and a true believer in his fringe ideals, but has zero sense of any of how any of it could possibly work in terms of policy or how he would work with Congress to enact any of it or how he would pay for it. His thoughts are as pie-in-the-sky as Trump's or Sanders'.

 

Or Clinton.

 

From a cynical standpoint, Republicans look at Cruz and figure he can at least deliver the McCain electoral map from 2008. Not nearly enough to win the White House of course, but at least he would bring out enough conservative voters to secure the House and give them a fighting chance to keep the Senate. They can go lick their wounds and reload for 2020, when an already unpopular Clinton will doubtless be in the middle of or emerging from an overdue recession.

Trump offers a slightly greater chance of winning the White House this year, but his potential downside is so much greater that it could threaten the House, Senate and even the viability of the GOP for a generation.

 

Cruz reminds me a lot of Richard Nixon. Very bright with strong conservative slant but very odd and just does not relate well to the masses. His wife reminds me of crazy Pat Nixon.
