Exactly. Mopping and absorption are the qualities that put them above the rest.

    Another nice salty-sweet combination!

While I'm back on that topic, these are really good:

False. Bacon wrapped shrimp. It's Ron Swanson's No. 1 favorite food wrapped around his No. 3 favorite food.

Love these. Even better when you put it on a hot grill for a couple of minutes before serving.

Had a bachelor night tonight, and inspired by this thread, had a personal favorite: a $1.29 Canadian bacon pizza, with sliced jalapenos and some sauerkraut added before baking. My wife and kids will banish me to the garage after I have this combo, but damn is that good.

No wonder it burns when you pee.
And that's probably just for starters. :)

I don't get the hatred for ham and pineapple pizza, same theory as salt and sweet.

Always have pineapple rings when I make a ham, everyone else uses mustard.

Pineapple rings with ham are awesome. I need something -- mustard, some salad dressing, even cranberry sauce -- with baked ham.
Pineapple on pizza is not a go-to for me, but it's not the worst thing either. Baked pineapple is pretty tasty, and when you get that little burst of juice when you bite into it, it's delicious.

I'm a ham & pineapple fan too. I've always wondered if this is an especially Western Canadian thing. Never saw a pizza place in BC that didn't have it as a standard combo but see it much less in Ontario and almost never saw it in Quebec.

I think it must be a regional thing. It's a combination you never used to see in the places -- NYC area, New Haven -- with the highest percentage of pizza snobs.

Ham steaks with pineapple, sure, but not on pizza until the last 10 or 15 years. When I was growing up it was sausage or pepperoni or anchovies with peppers or onions or mushrooms. Maybe meatball. Most of the time there was no topping.

And you'd never go to a pizza place that wasn't owned and operated by an Italian guy.

Hey, if the pizza is good, he's allowed to employ 5 Mexicans who spin pies in between doing bike deliveries.
