The Depression? WWII when it was unclear how it would turn out? Vietnam? Jack, Martin and Bobby? Watergate? THe oil crisisI and II? THe recessions? OPEC rules America? Japan Inc.? Parts of the Regan 80's and Parts of the Clinton 90's were pretty good, except the economy wasn't growing, only Wall Street.

1947-60 THe GOlden Years of America. The USA was strong, the rest of the world was weak. THe economy was expanding, the middle class was in its prime. Except we tied in Korea. THe Berlin Wall. We were deathly afraid of the COmmie Boogie Man. Joe McCarthy, Nixon and Trump's lawyer Roy Cohn were scaring the shit out of the country and blacklisting anyone who disagreed with them. We were processing everything and adding chemicals to the food and environment. Pollution was killing the cities. The underclass wasn't being served. Institutional racism and sexism meant that white Christians with job were ok. But it wouldn't last.THe coal mines, steel mills and car plants have all died or become insignificant.

And remember, the early Baby Boom generation gave us turbulent 60's. In hindsight, the Civil Rights movement was independent of the white middle class college kids who were against Vietnam because they didn't want to serve in a war that had little to do with America. In hindsight, the communists were nothing to be afraid of, they were destined to fail. Reagan was partially right, it wasn't spending them to death on the military. It was Western culture that could provide for its people, but the communist countries couldn't provide for theirs.

The Black and White TV shows of the 50's were the height of American dominance. Father Knows Best and Leavie it To Beaver and the Howdy Doody Show were the gold years, and they were fake.
