    Gotcha. And agreed on Superman.

I spent most of the movie trying to figure out who I hated more: the special-effects person or the screenwriter.

One person I know who saw it was upset that the Batmobile was barely in the film and the scene it was in was so dark you could barely see it.

But I would argue that you could have saved 30 minutes and cut out the meaningless car chase scenes in the movie. But maybe they needed those for the commercial tie-ins.

Definitely. That was one bad-ass character played by Benicio del Toro.

Completely agree. One of those movies where I was feeling disappointed when it ended.

It could have and should have been better.
Did not like Forest Whitaker's work in this one. Probably the first time I ever disliked one of his characters.
Whoever hired 50 cent to act should be beaten.

Saw The Cobbler, the movie Tom McCarthy made right before Spotlight. Adam Sandler actually gives a decent, realistic performance but an intriguing little indie film it starts off as descends into sheer dreck about an hour into it.

City of Gold, a documentary on LA Times restaurant writer (and Pulitzer winner) Jonathan Gold. Shows many of the various ethnic restaurants he has lauded in his career (some of which I've been to and are fabulous). Gold's a very interesting person, and I guarantee this movie will have you leaving hungry.

"Billy Jack," from the early 1970s.

Wow ... they don't make 'em like that anymore! An entertaining hippie movie that included an uncredited Howard Hesseman among the cast.

******* (Spoilers for a 45 year old movie are below!) **********

I enjoyed it more as a comedy (Careful! His feet are deadly weapons!) than a drama. The "heavy" themes about nonviolent resistance and how America has broken 3,500 treaties with Indian tribes are important, sure, but they come across as preachy and dated now. As does the "shock" of a 15-year-old girl telling her dad about all the hippie dudes in San Francisco "balling" her and one of them getting her pregnant.

My favorite character was the stuck-up rich kid, Bernard, who drives the Corvette into the lake. That's how a movie villain should be: over the top. He's a racist, bully, rapist, murderer ... almost a letdown when Billy Jack kills him with a quick karate chop to the throat, instead of beating/kicking the hell out of him.

One final thought: I was surprised this only received a PG rating; besides fleeting nudity and swear words/sex talk, the movie includes a father beating up his daughter, plenty of other violence and a graphic rape scene. Can't believe it wasn't rated "R" (and yeah, there was no PG-13 in those days).
