Haven't seen it yet but he's making the rounds on ESPN today. Said he's worked on it in some form for almost 2 years and on daily basis for 6 months.

  2. Can't wait to read it later today. It's getting some high praise.

Gotta set aside time to read Wright Thompson story tonight. Read a bit. Great stuff so far.

Not sure if Tiger will ever be competitive again. I'd love to see it happen.

He's tamped down expectations a lot. Which is smart. If he can get 80 percent healthy he can still compete.

It wasn't so long ago, 2013, when he won 5 times and was one bad break away from winning the Masters.

That's why I wouldn't put money on him never winning a major again. He's not catching Jack, but golf is such a fickle game that if he can get healthy and back on Tour regularly, he's got as good a chance as anyone of putting together one great weekend and stealing one more major.

Count me among those who thought Tiger would pass Jack. Maybe win 22 or 23 majors.

Won't happen now. But he might have a Masters in him. Or a British at St. Andrews.

Yes, but I'd bet even money Tiger cannot now, and may never be able to, do so much as bend down to pick the ball up out of the hole.

It's always good to see a reporter take the time - and be given the time - to really find some great details that others have not.

And I really appreciated Michael Jordan's perspective. It comes very late in the story, and I like where Thompson put it, not only because it's kind of a Easter egg late in the piece, but also because it seems appropriate to be there. Who else would know better, the path out of whatever Tiger's in?

I think Jordan has turned a good corner in the last five or so years, just in his personal life, and you're seeing a man coming into the prime of his wisdom. Woods isn't there yet. Jordan is much closer to that point. So to see that contrast - knowing what Jordan went through, which is arguably more than what Tiger did - is interesting. And Jordan says, ultimately, a right and decent thing.

I think you could have ended it on Jordan's final six words and called it day. Thompson adds a little coda, and it's nicely written, but Jordan's words end the piece.

Like I said, good stuff. Thompson handles Tiger "SEAL phase" exceedingly well. I'm not a big soldier guy. I'm just not. I'm not particularly enamored with who they are, what they do or why they do it, in part because I am not enamored with what America has them do, for the reasons America has them do it, and the money America pays them to do those things. But Thompson really does try to underline how Tiger's fascination only goes so far, and how SEALs viewed that.

How in the hell did Thompson suss out the SUV Tiger crashed that night is now owned by a guy in Arkansas? Did he run a VIN search? If so, where did he get the VIN - the police report?

Yeah, he might be the greatest or second-greatest golfer ever. Big deal. Albert Pujols doesn't get four strikes because he won a bunch of MVPs and was a great player 5 or 10 years ago.

If Woods doesn't finish in the top 125 on the money list in any particular year, and if he has no more medical exemptions, he should have to go back to Q school to keep his card, just like anyone else.
