Years ago I played in the Atlanta Falcons' media golf event and was on a team with one of the assistant coaches. Then-head coach Jerry Glanville drove up in a golf cart -- he didn't play because he said, like Pastner, that golf is a waste of time -- as the assistant was lining up an approach shot. "If you hit it close," Glanville yelled from the cart, "you're fired."

The assistant dutifully missed the green. Glanville then told the rest of us that if a coach has the time to get good at golf, he isn't working hard enough.

Is Henson really any different than Greg Gard was at Wisconsin? I guess he is now, considering he took the Texas - San Antonio job. But staying an assistant to a highly respected head coach for a significant amount of time is pretty good work, too.

I covered Henson when he was playing in the NBA. If I remember correctly, he was a coach's son, so coaching should be in his blood. I think he also was a really good high-jumper or something in track.

    So what was his excuse?

He got the Marquette job offered to him, used it to better his situation at Little Rock, then never got a better job than at Lamar.

At a combined 72-97 as a head coach, he didn't do a lot of things.

Only two months after accepting a three-year extension. His wife had open-heart surgery while he was at URI - hope her health's not an issue again.
