By my count, the Braves have trotted 551 hitters to the plate since their last home run. I'm not near committed enough to count pitches, but using the club's average of 3.39 pitches per plate appearance, that translates to 1,868 pitches they've seen and failed to go yikkety even once.

(edited to use this year's p/pa average)

That's some impressive math. I went back through the game logs on Baseball Reference. Last homer was with one out in the fourth inning of the game against the Cardinals on April 10. Beginning when Adam Wainwright left that game after five innings, the total was 1,913 pitches. So figure the total is probably around 1,930.

Too early for a What's Wrong With Zack Greinke subthread?

Looks like the velocity on his two-seamer is way down and the velocity on his curveball is way up. Hence, some of the results you're seeing.

The advanced stats do say that he is not pitching nearly as poorly as the 6.00-plus ERA would indicate, though. More in the 4-range. Essentially, everything went ridiculously right for him last year, including a .229 BABIP. (LOL.) This year, everything is going wrong for him so far, some his own doing, some bad luck.

Monday is so associated with his time as a Dodger that some people forget that the flag save happened when he was a Cub.
And on that note, I can't remember if he was traded to the Dodgers or signed with them as a free agent, but my theory is the Dodgers really wanted him just because of what he did in saving that flag and the response that he got from the fans that day.

I think a little bit of bad luck mixed with the fact he's now pitching in a hitter's park makes up the difference.

In three starts at home this season, Greinke has allowed 18 runs (including 5 homers) in 16.2 innings.

In two road starts (at SF & SD), he's allowed 3 runs in 14 innings.

In 13 career starts at Chase Field (including this year), Greinke has a 4.69 ERA with 13 homers allowed in 78.2 innings.

Small sample size, but I think it's safe to say he's going to struggle to have an ERA below 3 as long as he's in Arizona.
