I find that very difficult to believe. Doesnt seem to me that she would be in position to know.

Well, he had no wife (he was divorced twice) and never had any kids (except for one that died as an infant), so who would he have wanted to leave his money to exactly?

It all depends on Minnesota's probate laws. Looks like the sister will gain control of the estate.

He's got five half-siblings who will be treated as being equal members of the class with his sister. If he doesn't have a will, this will be a real mess. One of the first tasks of the administrator the court appoints will be to seek out whether a will exists or not and that person will have access to places that his sister does not, such as any safety deposit boxes Prince might've had.

It's a good reminder that all of us should let the executor we name in our wills know where they can find the will when the time comes. And almost every adult should have a will to avoid the messiness of intestate succession.

Here's a decent full story on Prince's situation from the NYT.

Unless Prince left something specific somewhere to the contrary I suspect the family will start churning out whatever music he has in his vaults - and I suspect it would be substantial - as quick as they can.

They should make Paisley Park an attraction for fans to visit -- like Graceland.

    Bet they consider that too.

Those would be potentially lucrative ideas, but if there's no will and you have six owners with an equal share it can be incredibly difficult to make even the smallest decisions.

Agreed but one thing they would probably agree on is how much could be made releasing his music through CDs, streaming etc. How well they do it would be another issue, The load of crap released after Hendrix' death would be Exhibit A here. It was years before that got sorted out.
