Tommy John went 21-9 and 22-9 as a FA signee with the Yanks in 79 & 80, finished 2 and 4 Cy Young voting

Five-player deal with Billy Buckner and Ivan DeJesus going to the Cubs. Monday was also a local star from Santa Monica High. He lived 3 blocks from us but I didn't know him. He's six years older. My brother went to high school with him. I was working for the paper in Santa Monica and covered the Dodgers in 1981 when he hit the big homer against the Expos. We were a PM paper and it happened early enough for us to get the story into that day's paper -- same-day coverage in print. Yippee!!!

He's lucky someone wasn't sitting in the upper deck with a 9mm. It is Detroit after all.

According to Fangraphs' stats, his four-seamer is unchanged and his two-seamer is down two mph.

Story idea: the home run trot.

Braves hit a homer last night ... and pushed their MLB-leading run differential to -44.

I'm as big a Braves fan as anyone you'll meet and I can't bring myself to watch more than a couple of innings at a time. It's sad.
