100% true. Hopefully, enough of these organizations have had a changeover in the last decade, and will take this step.

Either way, school presidents, boards of directors, the Pope, and others in positions of authority should be calling for, and funding, independent investigations, in which the chips fall where they may.

The people who are responsible for these crimes need to be found, identified, and, where possible, arrested.

If you think the institution you run was immune from these problems over the last number of decades, then you are part of the problem.

Alumni, the press, and political leaders (Governors in the case of state schools) need to call for investigations.

Is he from Penn State, or does Ziegler just see an opportunity in a group of folks who need protection from the facts being reported in the media?

Ziegler is not connected to Penn State. Not a grad, not a prof, nothing. Just a conspiracy theorist who has become an attack dog for the Truthers. I watch him occasionally because I'm really fascinated by the almost delusional behavior. Remember, this was a guy who was once seen as the next Sean Hannity. One of David Foster Wallace's biggest pieces was a profile of him for The Atlantic. Now he spends his entire day fighting on the Internet on behalf of the Paternos and Sanduskys. It's nuts.

He's also president of the Sarah Palin Fan Club, right? What a niche!

Ziegler and the PSU moonbats are a perfect marriage. This guy has made his bones with the premise that media is flawed, biased, LIBRULL!!!11!!, and engages in witch huntery while the PSU moonbats all believe the same in the wake of this mess. The Moonbats also conveniently forget that this same evil, miserable media with its anti-PSU agenda spent from 1970-2011 lapping up any diarrhea spew coming out of State College about Grand Experiments, Success with Honor, The Penn State Way and any other associated nonsense that really wasn't a way of life as much as it was well done marketing.

I don't remember these people crybabying when Nessler showed a barely awake Paterno in the press box and boasted, "JoePa's coachin' from the press box today." Meanwhile, any one of us was coaching as much as Paterno was. I don't remember them crybabying any time Musberger got three sheets to the wind and started babbling about "The Lion in Autumn" and started performing verbal fellatio.

Penn State and Joe Paterno's image is as much the creation of the media as it is their own well-placed marketing and public relations. And now those same reporters see Oz was just an old motherfucker behind a curtain, they're reporting such and these people can't handle it.

And, much like the Catholic church, the ones who seem to be in denial the most are the Baby Boomer alums who have spent their entire lives believing everything Penn State is good, just and righteous and Paterno is God-like. I have family who have driven from out-of-state to attend some of these Goddamned rallies in support of Paterno. They're graduates, retired and refuse to believe their Santa Claus isn't real.

You're not going to spend that kind of money without some smoke. Not because you "don't want to discover the truth." But because it would be a wildly inefficient - in fact, an irresponsible - use of limited resources.

Speaking of Truthers, I wonder if JoePa is really dead. Or, did he really have lung cancer? Or did he Kevorkian himself out of shame?

    Bullshit.

Sexual predators imbedded themselves in jobs/institutions where they had access to children in institutions across the country for decades.

And, because we didn't know how, and didn't want to, deal with the issue, it festered.

Look at what the Globe uncovered in its new investigation. You think the same thing didn't happen at schools across the country?

As for the costs, they don't have to be high if nothing happened. It can begin with a simple blast email, or an online form on a website.

If that turns up something, you go further.

But it's vital that victims be encouraged to come forward. And, they need to be sure there is an independent process in place to investigate credible claims/accusations.
