    Romney was my governor for four years. I disagree with his policies, but he's a competent executive officer for government. Trouble was, he stopped being governor the day after the 2004 election to start running for President, thus becoming much less effective as an absentee leader for the final two years of his term.

    Energy production not a real strong factor right now. Texas alone would be a classic boom-bust unstable resource extraction economy led by a wealthy elite of rent-seekers. So very little would be different, come to think of it.

    Like most red states, Texas does take in more money in federal funds than it pays out. They need the rest of the country more than it needs them.
