Almost at the end of The Heartbreak Kid.

They did a great job making Lilah the cute little Jewish girl a woman scorned after just 5 days of marriage. Cybil Shepherd was golden gorgeous.

Watched Play It As It Lays earler today. Trippy like a Cassavetes flick. Like Cybil, Tuesday Weld was gorgeous in her own way.

Kind of a lame ending to The Heartbreak Kid.

  3. Just got back from Civil War. Very enjoyable and entertaining. I'd ranked it higher than Ultron.
The movie was much more than I expected.

LOVED the new Spiderman! I'd call that more than a cameo. Totally Digging Aunt May.

Loved the last song on credits. Great song.

    The Vision was borderline annoying.

Was it just me, or did they seem to scale down the level of invincibility of Iron Man's suits?

    Yup

The Zemo plot device was a weak contrivance to get the Civil War started. He was hit squad commander in a 3rd world country and he was able to deceive the Avengers and US Government? General Ross and Zemo working together would have been better not hard to make happen.

SpiderMan was genius level movie making. Easy to integrate him into the story. And it was fun without being over the top. I've seen Aunt May naked and I like it

Money Monster and Criminal over the weekend.

Money Monster didn't break any new ground (then again, not many movies do), but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would given some of its reviews.

Went to dollar theatre to see Criminal last night and really liked it. Kind of a Con Air/Bourne/Deja Vu/Source Code mash-up, but it worked for me. Which I found odd because it was at full-priced theatres about a week before shuffling off, and I don't recall much promotional push.

Went to my first theater that had reserved seats with full size recliners. Seat goes way back foot rest comes up. They must have removed nearly 1/2 the seats because each row is so deep that the leg rests come up and there's stil an aisle to walk by.

Get to pick your seats on line.

Watching the Point Break remake right now and, man, it's really fucking awful. Totally joyless and fails to live up to the original in any way. It feels more like a XXX remake, complete with lame YouTube references that seem dated before the film even ends, than a Point Break remake.

I assumed it would be fairly bad, but I expected the stunts and action scenes to at least be worthwhile. There's one good scene (the surfing scene) in the whole damn movie and Luke Bracey makes Keanu look like Leo Goddamn DiCaprio.

The original wasn't high art, but it was fun and had a certain joy to it. They made you like Bodhi and respect and the viewer understood the relationship that he and Utah built (and why they both felt the other violated their mutual respect). There was at least some element of investigating, which this one completely lacks. And this one really misses the Southern California vibe.

The Fast and the Furious was a much more worthy retelling of Point Break.

Yeah, it was pretty much all downhill after the motorcycle stunt at the start.

Watched a little more than half of Jurassic World last night. I'm just left flat by movies that have that much CGI, and I never cared for any of the characters.

The original Point Break is excellent mostly for Kathryn bigelow's direction. It's kind of a big, dumb movie, but you're 30 minutes and all of sudden, it's pretty damn good and you're into it. That's good direction. I'd argue swayze is damn good in that movie. I would not defend the rest of performances.

I'm still trying to figure why they thought that one needed a remake.

"Seven Psychopaths" was my movie break for this past weekend. It's the movie about writing and writer's block that "Adaptation" tried so hard to be.

As comedies go, this is one dark twist of licorice. It might not be for everyone, but I loved it.
