If they would just be honest and admit that they figure they'll either just be costing themselves readers and advertising, or credibility, I'd give them more credit. Most papers that chicken out on major endorsements have no problem with weighing in on the low-profile races with even more dubious characters.

And yet today we have devices and apps that allow us to stream damn near any radio station or TV broadcast in the world, to almost anywhere in the world. Some of his ideas and criticisms in regards to the NBA have also been pretty astute and forward-thinking.
Cuban's very much an "idea guy." He's very good at saying, "Why aren't we doing this? Why can't we do this?" The problem is, a lot of his ideas either don't yet have enough popular support to catch on or the technology (like with his broadcast.com venture) hasn't caught up yet. He's got good ideas that are 5 or 10 years away from being viable, and it seems like he's got the sense to find people who can bring them to life even if he himself can't.

I think they think they were being "profound."

But "This guy is the worst, so stand up for conservative ideals by doing the one thing that would seal a Clinton presidency!" only works well in a budget meeting filled with editors all on their first day.

If members of the editorial board at the U-T really believe they have that level of influence over their readers, they have fallen victim to the dread condition known as "believing your own press releases."
