It's a sitting Senator that had previously endorsed him and is now rescinding that endorsement. I understand your point. I also know how you would react if, say, a Democratic Senator rescinded an endorsement of Hillary, no matter where he or she was from.

 

He does it so often he, and his people, have it down to a science.

 

That's not a "pivot" that's a "denial of something that even his biggest supporters in the party saw."

This is exactly right. Probably his biggest problem as a candidate and potential president isn't that he's actually racist, it's that he's so inarticulate and might not even really get how racist and silly he sounds.
