I would just like for someone to explain why it's necessary for the normal, everyday American to have access to the same sort of assault weapons used in the military.

I've heard this from a hospital spokesman as well. I'm betting that the AR15 used wasn't in 5.56 but in 7.62 or .308, a heavier round.

Report is that an AR15, a pistol, and some sort of explosive device were found on the shooter.

Can we just lock this fucking thread for a couple of hours until new information comes out? There are plenty of other threads for certain poster to mimic Boom on.

Well, shit. The Orlando Sentinel can solve all our problems? What are they doing wasting their time paying tribute to the victims?

The .223 is the most common round for civilian versions of AK/ARs. When it hits, it doesn't punch through. It twists and turns. Doctors have seen people shot in the upper shoulder but then found the bullet in the victim's stomach.

Yet we don't know how/where he got it. I'm all for an assault weapon ban but do we know if that would have prevented this?

Sorry, but it is germane to the conversation that millions of Americans today are going to accessorize their Facebook profile picture and call it a day.
