True, terrorists from Tim McVeigh to the Boston Marathon have used bombs effectively. Difficult to prevent since they're often manufactured from such innocuous everyday ingredients.

We adopted common-sense restrictions after 9/11 to make it more difficult for people to take over a plane and use it as a weapon. The new approach has worked.

Still waiting on the common sense restrictions for assault weapons -- which are designed solely for efficiently killing large numbers of people -- after Columbine, Sandy Hook, Aurora, etc ... a list that only keeps growing.

From friend in Orlando whose hubby is a cop ...

"(Hubby's) good buddy was the lone guy working off duty last night at the club before the terrorist opened fire....and his other two buddies were the hostage negotiator and the fella who had his helmet shot through...."

    1) Your statement wasn't that ignoring it wouldn't make the problem go away. Your statement was that ignoring it has EXACERBATED it. My question was what specific domestic terrorist attacks do you feel were the direct result of the mainstream public ignoring radical islam after previous attacks, i.e., what has led you to the conclusion that our downplaying of the connection of radical islam to terror in the past helped set the stage for last night's shooting, and, moving forward, what has led you to the conclusion that our downplaying of the connection of radical islam to this instance of terror will set the stage for future attacks? Your last response indicates that you feel like the answer to these questions are self-evident. Clearly, they aren't, so why not just explain in detailed cause-effect sequences so that you might actually persuade people to change their stance. I legitimately would like to know how I can help prevent muslim extremists from committing acts of terror. Simply explain to me the best way for me to "not ignore" the problem of muslim extremism (should I be posting on more message boards blaming muslim extremists for acts of terror? should I be picketing outside of mosques? wearing T-shirts that express my condemnation of islamic fundamentalism? should I travel to Syria and fight as a mercenary?), and explain to me how these acts of non ignorance will prevent the next act of terror, and I will whole heartedly enlist in your cause. I think the problem is you aren't explaining it on a simple enough level for me to understand.

    2) I feel like our actions in the wake of 9/11 were pretty much the opposite of "ignoring" the problem, as we militarily went into a foreign country and expelled radical muslims from that country. Clearly, those actions weren't enough, since 50 people died at the hands of a muslim extremist yesterday. Should we have continued to go into foreign countries and hunt down muslim extremists? Afghanistan, then Iraq, then Libya, then Syria/the Caliphate, then perhaps Pakistan and/or Yemen? At what point will we have sufficiently "not ignored" the problem of radical Islam so that terrorist attacks like last night's will no longer occur? Your position indicates a belief that the possibility exists that we can one day reach a day where the scourge of fundamentalist Islam is eliminated, correct?

Again, I realize the answers to these questions are obvious to you, but as you have observed, there are plenty of people who do not understand them, so it would be helpful to your cause to explain them.

The AR-15 is the platform upon which the M16 and M4 were developed. It was designed to efficiently kill large numbers of people, then modified. It's the same weapon.

What level of proof do you need to officially meet the definition of "a connection"?

I don't really care if the IS top bosses previously knew the guy or ordered the thing. If his primary motivation for the attack was loyalty to ISIS then that's connection enough in my book to attribute this to IS Islamic terrorism. And sure sounds like that's likely the case if the FBI had twice previously investigated him for ISIS connections and there's 911 audiotape of him expressly declaring allegiance to ISIS and Al Baghdadi right before the attack.

I hate them. Despise them. Condemn them. Their theology is sick, twisted, medieval. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them.

Now what? Just tell me what to do. You are clearly a man of action. Let's do this. Will a pamphlet work? Maybe we should make one of those. We've ignored these bastards for too long already. A spade is a spade. FUCK THE MUSLIM TERRORISTS!

That doesn't feel like enough. Please advise.

The use of all caps on this thread has been extremelywell executed. Also, this is very much a gun issue.
