In the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in American history, Republican politicians once again have nothing to offer but hollow offerings of prayers while they spend every day demonizing LGBT Americans and fighting to unravel every gun regulation in America on behalf of their financiers at the National Rifle Association.

If you recall, fifty-three Republican Senators voted against banning gun sales to members of the FBI’s terrorism watch list back in December, after the San Bernadino shootings. That bit of hypocrisy has come back to claim more lives as a US citizen who was on the FBI’s terrorist watch list gunned down 50 people and wounded fifty more at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. The state of Florida has some of the most lax gun laws in the country; no license or permit are needed to purchase a military-grade assault rifle. The shooter was found to have not one but two legal concealed carry weapons permits.

I don't know what this means. Why are you ignoring my questions about the issue of stopping muslim terrorists? It's people like you who exacerbate the problem by sticking your head in the sand. Radical islam is a problem that we need to stop. How many people have to die at the hands of muslim fanatics before you take my questions seriously?

No, they are not. You can argue about whether ARs should be available to civilians, but saying it is the same as an M16 is not accurate. It confuses people who are not familiar with firearms who don't understand the difference between full auto and semi-auto for starters.

Saying a Colt Commander and a Kimber .45 are the same weapon is also inaccurate. They are both .45 caliber 1911 variants, and that's not enough difference to amount to much if you get shot with one.

Same for M4 and AR. Both are .223 weapons off the Stoner platform. There are a lot of variants, but there isn't enough difference to amount to much if you take one into a bar where your targets are all under 100' away.

How about the politicians who use terrorist attacks to pander to the anti-gun lobby? Plenty of bloody checks to go around.

This is a serious message board with the capability to effect major policy change, dammit!!!

Aside from auto vs. semi, the biggest difference between the two is price, how easy they are to obtain and the paperwork needed to buy them.

The specific gun tangent is a weird one.

Nobody needs a military-grade assault rifle. Or a 30-round magazine.

Love her or hate her, I think the presumptive Democratic nominee checks the right boxes in the right order:

I join Americans in praying for the victims of the attack in Orlando, their families and the first responders who did everything they could to save lives.

This was an act of terror. Law enforcement and intelligence agencies are hard at work, and we will learn more in the hours and days ahead. For now, we can say for certain that we need to redouble our efforts to defend our country from threats at home and abroad. That means defeating international terror groups, working with allies and partners to go after them wherever they are, countering their attempts to recruit people here and everywhere, and hardening our defenses at home. It also means refusing to be intimidated and staying true to our values.

This was also an act of hate. The gunman attacked an LGBT nightclub during Pride Month. To the LGBT community: please know that you have millions of allies across our country. I am one of them. We will keep fighting for your right to live freely, openly and without fear. Hate has absolutely no place in America.

Finally, we need to keep guns like the ones used last night out of the hands of terrorists or other violent criminals. This is the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States and it reminds us once more that weapons of war have no place on our streets.

This is a time to stand together and resolve to do everything we can to defend our communities and country.

But that's not the point. I'm not sure what is, but that's not the point.
