    I don't like it.

A news organization is supposed to try to be sober and relay the magnitude of the moment, and 1A, after a tragedy of this magnitude, that is known to the world, is a not a eulogy or a rallying cry, but a record of the events that, should one want to see, years later, how the news of that day unfolded, it'd be reflected in 1A with the masthead and all the rest.

The editorial, in effect, says: "The most important thing of this event is not what happened, but what the Orlando Sentinel editorial board wanted you to feel about it."

And there are arguably times for that - specifically when the paper has uncovered some kind of abuse or conducted an investigation or is trying to make a point about a matter that the community may not otherwise understand.

But a mass murder? Look, you can get these sentiments, that the Sentinel shared, everywhere, all day, on Sunday. Everywhere, all day. So the best thing the Sentinel could have done is not provide a therapy page, but simply step into history, solemnly but with power, in a way no one else would.

I'm sure, on A2, that happened. Should be 1A.

Thanks Hack, was looking to see if it had been reposted here. I wonder where the fuck people come up with these ideas unless they mainline Faux News or right-wing radio. On a big story - any story, really - I'm too busy getting the facts to worry about the politics.

Or, as the legendary spnited said, "We are not the story. We are the storytellers. "

Yep. Well said. The Charleston cover that some people had a problem with was at least the second day. This is the Sentinel making itself the story.
