    The 2000s haven't been kind for record setting regular season teams. The W's, the unbeaten Patriots team, the 116 win Mariners team--none of them were able to close the deal with a championship.

    Because every sport has expanded its playoffs to the point that the postseason has largely become a crapshoot (though that's still less the case in the NBA than in the other three major sports).
