According to experts, NBC reports that Islam loves the gays.

What does Islam say about being gay?
Experts say that LGBT figures have been a feature of the faith since the days of the Prophet Muhammad.

"There is sexual diversity in Islam," said Ali A. Olomi, an Afghan-American activist and historian who teaches at the University of California in Irvine. "Of course there is homosexuality, gay people have existed and even been represented in Islam throughout history."

Most scholars agree that musician Al Dalal, a contemporary of the Prophet Muhammad, was gay. Then there's the 13th Century Persian poet Rumi, who wrote homoerotic verses dedicated to same-sex love.

Still, Islamic scholars overwhelmingly teach that same-gender sex is a sin. The Muslim holy book, the Quran, tells the story of Lot and the destruction of Sodom — with sodomy in Arabic referred to as "liwat," based on Lot's name.

Men having sex with each other should be punished, the Quran says, but it doesn't say how — and it adds that they should be left alone if they repent.

Gay Muslims say the Quran is not as prescriptive as many imams suggest.

"The Quran says little about homosexuality and many claims are made about the content of the Quran that do not necessarily stand scrutiny," according to Imaan, a British LGBT support group.

A small number of Islamic scholars, mainly in the West, have started re-examining Islamic teaching on same-gender sex and have concluded that the blanket condemnation is a misinterpretation.

Historic texts on Islam "deal with violence against men but not love or relations between women or any kind of nuance," said Olomi. "When you try to put ancient interpretations of sodomy onto modern sexuality it becomes convoluted.

"Religious leaders who say homosexuality is anti-Islamic interpret Islam in a narrow fashion that erases thousands of years of diversity and complexity," Olomi added. "There isn't a singular, modular concept of sexuality in Islam, it is always been debated and contested."

Misinterpretation? How is such a thing possible? This is not open to interpretation. You're such a fucking hypocrite. #narrative

LOL. Yes. A small number of Islamic scholars, mainly in the West, have started re-examining Islamic teaching on same-gender sex and have concluded that the blanket condemnation is a misinterpretation.

So, we have a few Islamic Scholars who wish their religion didn't prescribe the death penalty for homosexuality, as spelled out in the Hadith — the traditions or sayings of the Prophet Muhammad -- and who have decided that the vast majority of Islamic Scholars have "misinterpreted" Islam.

    How's that working out?

So, it's just a handful, but it fits your #narrative? And why would they believe it is open for interpretation?

My research is inconclusive. Many sources say it's of. Others say it's not.

One said you've got to kill the person and the animal. That doesn't seem fair to the animal.

You can learn fascinating things from some "Ask the Imam" sites though.

For instance, Female Genital Mutilation is only encouraged, and not required. And, I never knew it had so many benefits! It even makes it smell better. Who knew?

Female circumcision is recognized in Shari’ah. Consider the following Hadith:

Umm ‘Atiyyah Al-Ansariyyah (Radhiyallahu Anha) relates that Rasulullah (ﷺ) told a woman who would perform circumcisions in Madinah, “Don’t exaggerate in your cutting (destroy, uproot, excise), for verily that is better for the woman and more desirable to the husband.[12]

However, female circumcision is not a religious obligation nor an emphasized Sunnah. It is simply encouraged.[13] The hadith further implies that female circumcision should be carried out by a professional and an expert in the field to avoid malpractice.

    Consider the following Hadith:

    عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْخِتَانُ سُنَّةٌ لِلرِّجَالِ، مَكْرُمَةٌ لِلنِّسَاءِ

Hadhrat Usamah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (ﷺ) said: “Circumcision is a sunnah for men and a noble deed for women.”[14]

Female circumcision has many health benefits as well such as:

    • It prevents unpleasant odours which result from foul secretions beneath the prepuce.
    • It reduces the incidence of urinary tract infections.
    • It reduces the incidence of infections of the reproductive system[15]

A few scholars totally outweigh entire Muslim countries where homosexuality is illegal and/or punishable by death.

    Ugh. You're really being dumb.

They're not saying anything I haven't said. They aren't saying that the Koran is anything but the literal Word of God.

They aren't saying it's teachings can be changed or moderated.

They are claiming that the vast majority of Islamic Scholars have misunderstood what the Koran, and/or the Hadith, says.

Imagine if it was a couple of Hollywood producers that suggested this? There would have been protest riots all over the middle east.

If the MAL existed in the first half of the 20th century, a common refrain would have been, "But not ALL Nazis kill Jews!"
