Yes, and a few crazy jihadists totally outweigh entire Muslim populations where they live peacefully.

So, tell me again how it's open to misunderstanding/misinterpretation? I thought that was impossible.

    Playing dumb is not cute.

The Koran is literal Word of God, as transcribed to Mohammad, who is the final Prophet.

You will find no disagreement with this from any Muslim.

When I say it's not open to interpretation, I meant that it says what it says. It can't be changed. You can't interpret it to mean something other than what it says.

You will find some who accuse others of "misinterpretation", but no one says that they are "interpreting" its meaning. Everyone argues that theirs is the only true reading of it.

I'm the one playing dumb? Your last sentence tells me all I need to know. Actually, this entire post does. It is not open to interpretation, but folks are accused of misenterpreting it? I mean, seriously?

"Female circumcision" is a term straight out of 1984. Let's call it what it is: removing a woman's clitoris. It's a way for men to subjugate women because for the vast majority of women (but not all), sexual pleasure is obtained by stimulation of the clitoris. Barbaric. And reprehensible.

There are lots of anti-Muslim sites, but let's go to a pro-Muslim site for guidance, ok?

First, let's confirm what the Koran is:

The Qur’an is a unique book of literary greatness and perfection. It is none other than the speech of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala).

    Public » Askimam

So, as I've said, it's the literal Word of God.

Now, let's see what they say about "interpreting" the Koran:

It is not permissible to interpret the Qur’aan according to one’s understanding. This is clearly understood from the following Ahadith.

    Public » Askimam

So, you can't just decide to interpret it yourself.

If you try to interpret the Koran, without knowledge, you're going to suffer:

“Whoever interprets the Qur'an without knowledge, then let him make the Fire of hell his abode.” [Tirmidhi; Vol. 5, Pg. 49 – Gharb]

In another narration Nabi ﷺ has mentioned:

    مَنْ قَالَ فِي القُرْآنِ بِرَأْيِهِ فَأَصَابَ فَقَدْ أَخْطَأ

    Translation:

“Whoever renders tafseer from his own intelligence, then even if he reaches the correct meaning, he will still be considered to have erred.” [Tirmidhi; Vol. 5, Pg. 50 – Gharb] [1]

A person who has the knowledge of at least the following five (5) categories may interpret the Qur’aan:

    1. To be an absolute master in the Arabic language and all related sciences.
    2. To have knowledge of Ahadith and its various sciences.
    3. To be a master in Ilmul-Kalaam (Aqaaid; Beliefs).
    4. Islamic jurisprudence; without it a person will err in every step.
    5. To have the divine given ability to interpret. [2]
Furthermore, such a person too is bound by the tafseer explained by Rasulullah ﷺand as understood and explained by the Sahabah Radhiyallahu Anhum. [3]

Barbaric, but also noble. Plus, it smells better.
