Does anyone use "The Latest" for anything?

I can't see what purpose it would ever serve outside taking writers away from crafting the story that will run in our newspaper, and it's not like anyone is rushing to the AP site to read BLOGS! anyway.

Would they be geared more towards TV/radio folk? I don't know if those mediums use the AP wire, but the briefs are written in a format that would be fairly easy for someone to read on air.

Not to jinx it, but ...

AP Exchange is still functional. And I'm grateful, because it's easier for me to find photos there than the new system.

Yeah, every day I log into AP Exchange and it still works, I'm thankful. We don't subscribe to AP photos, so it's much easier to navigate than the new site when all you're looking for is stories.

Would it have killed the Cleveland Cavaliers fanboi loser AP writer to mention ANYTHING regarding scoring, rebounding, etc., from the Golden State Warriors after Game 5 of the NBA Finals?

My God, the entire story was a fanboi fluff piece for the Cavs.

Just a brief mention of Green being suspended (for a "slap" to Lebron's nuts, as opposed to the kick he delivered to Steven Adams of the Thunder in Game 3 of the semifinals that DIDN'T warrant a suspension, but we're talking Lebron here).

I thought ESPN was bad with the Lebron lovefest. Tom Withers at the AP must have creamed himself Monday night.

I've used it several times to fill space on late stories, since they couldn't get us a decent story in a reasonable time.

Talk about AP cheaping out, they had the same guy writing three (by my count) stories from Game 6 of the Cup Final the other night. I think the third, on the Penguins, was technically a reworked gamer, but still. Is there no one else in the Bay Area who could've been sent over there?

(I realize Orlando was that morning and San Fran was having remembrances, but not even finding a stringer to handle a sidebar was lame. Didn't realize AP was now a sweatshop.)

AP San Francisco is also slightly busy with that peach basket thing in Oakland. But just two full-timers to cover two MLB teams, two NBA teams, NHL and two Pac-12 teams?

And two (for now) NFL teams.

I felt bad for the guy when I kept reading his name pop up on every Cup story that night.

I'd start my own "Reuters/Sports Xchange/USA TODAY SPORTS PHOTOS" thread but that would be redundant.

Twice in the last month, they've never gotten around to moving baseball stories they'd budgeted (in both instances, on nights where we had teams playing deadline-busting West Coast games), then contacted me to see if someone had responded to my question ... at or after deadline.

Tonight, USA TODAY Sports Photos (I hate that - stylebook requires it be fixed every time) moved all of their photos from the NHL Awards by 7:30 CT, and none of them included actual awards. Just red-carpet shots of NHL players, their wives, and a few E-list celebrities. When I asked them about it, they said the NHL only lets Getty shoot the actual ceremony.

Ended up having to beg our regional news hub for two-year-old file art from a story of theirs of a player the regional NHL team is going to buy out.

I miss having AP so much it hurts.
