Based on public opinion, the issue has tremendous credibility.

Are you usually on board with unconstitutional proposals that would essentially be de facto anti-Muslim legislation? "No fly no buy" sounds good, and I initially didn't consider the issues at play, but the reality is that it strips away due process from a wider swath of people than a bunch of pandering politicians would lead you to believe.

Yet this is the corner liberals have backed themselves into. They're so eager to exploit gun violence that they've thrown one of their special-interest groups under the bus while actively ignoring one of the fundamental rights underpinning the American ideal.*

*I would love to hear any of the posters who have a problem with the 2A and its reach explain to me why due process shouldn't be an absolute.

They're used to it. Look at how they're treating Supreme Court nominees.

Will you stop getting your information from Molotov Mitchell videos?

The idea that this issue doesn't deserve credibility is ridiculous. And the idea that anyone is "exploiting" these incidents is offensive. I'm on record as opposing the no fly provisions without due process, but clearly, something needs to be done. The vast majority agree, but as long as our leaders are opposed to compromise, I'm not optimistic.

I just think it's ridiculous that they won't even vote on it.
I've never understood why they don't just vote on every bill.
It's not like they don't have time.

They just voted on four gun bills, and that went pretty much as expected.
ETA: The House did not, but will the outcome be any different? No.

I don't like Ryan's comment that this was a publicity stunt, but it obviously is designed to focus attention on the issue, and I think it worked. We'll see in a couple of weeks if it means anything. Saw a televised poll that said more Republicans support the no-fly ban (90 percent) than Democrats (85). And how anyone can oppose stricter background checks, I will never understand.

Pretty sure this is the second time you've made this disgusting statement. Tell me where it says in the Constitution that we shouldn't check the backgrounds of people who buy guns. Lewis is asking for action. I know that's a bit much for our Congress.

So glad they passed the Zika virus bill before they adjourned, though. Prioritizing.

I've said this here a few times, but in this sense guns are the abortion of the right. In both cases, the defenders are so afraid that the other side wants to take away everything, that they refuse even the most simple, common sense regulation. And they're both right, but it leads to absurd and often immoral stances for pragmatic political reasons.
