I knew there was a Westworld remake coming, but hadn't realized it was a show on HBO rather than a movie. First trailer looks interesting.

That trailer looks awesome. There's an original? Never heard of it until I saw the trailer before GOT last night.

It was a great fun movie when it came out and quite the pop culture reference point for a while. Even had a porn movie parody- Sexworld.

THis is going to be great

The original was released in 1973 and starred Richard Benjamin and Yul Brenner. I haven't seen it in many years, but I remember enjoying it.

My cousin was an extra in the movie. He had one speaking line, but it got cut. Even he said he didn't like it.

The original got horrible reviews as well (as did Armageddon). I don't think the "Independence Day" audience has awfully high dramatic standards.

FWIW, the original is rated 61 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, while the new one is 33 percent. So the original was liked quite a bit more than the current incarnation.

Armageddon, however, was fairly reviled at 39 percent. I still enjoyed it.

  8. I LOVE both those movies!

ID2 didn't even beat out Finding Dory this weekend.
I had a few friends who went o see it, and thought it sucked.
While I am not a big beleiver in Rotten Tomatoes, the reviews are scathing.

I look at RottenTomatoes like I do WAR or OPS - it doesn't tell you the whole story of a movie's (or player's) quality, but it's a decent shorthand. And knowing a couple of writers there, I think they do a great job.

In a way, I like that ID4 2 didn't try to be exactly like the original and repeat some story beats, especially at the beginning. You just can't replicate the growing tension and dread of the first 40-45 minutes of the original. Impossible for thr audience, as we know how this is going to pan out. So I appreciated that.
