Your Law & Order law school education leads to some wild imagination. Police need to do more than "slip up" for a perp to walk.

 

Many innocent people have been incarcerated across the country. Usually they have a darker skin color than you or I. Those folk usually need lawyers, because racism.

OK, say you received a similar text, apparently by mistake and decide it's fair game.

If you know that you are the only one who received the text, does it change how you pursue/publish the information?

What if you aren't sure if others received it? Or you know that it went out to dozens of reporters? Do you still have a conversation with the lawyer/text sender, your bosses, etc., before you publish anything?

 

I'm just not sure what the news is here. That Johnny Manziel's lawyer acknowledged that Manziel has used drugs? That doesn't seem to be in doubt, does it? For all the reporter knows, the lawyer is going off of the same news reports that the rest of us are.

 

There is zero chance this text was sent "accidentally."

 

You think Johnny maybe owes his barrister some money and this is payback? Or was this is an attempt to get some sympathy?

 

Maybe he got sick of defending someone who doesn't care if he lives or dies.

Not all of them. Still, working with addicts is not for everyone. It can be pretty exasperating.
