Given his history on ethnic faux pas, I keep seeing a tweet with Donald slurping down matzo ball soup from his hotel's kitchen and proclaiming "I love Jews."

It's a longstanding stereotype going back centuries that Jews are wealthy and moneylenders. Back in the Middle Ages, Jews were frequently banned from dealing with Christians in many professions in Europe. One profession that they weren't banned, was moneylending.

Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice" deals with a businessman who defaults on a loan from anJewish moneylender. The moneylender is the villain in the play, although in our modern world, we'd see him as abused.

This is supposed to be a defense?

Oh, a Star of David floating over a pile of cash, that's pretty bad. I'm no expert, but that's gotta be in one of the early chapters of Bigoted Iconography for Dummies. And the point would be to play on any anti-semitism held, quietly or no, by Trumpsters (or Bernie Bros who've yet to formally pick a different horse).

There are really only two possible explanations, neither good: 1) stupidity; or 2) anti-semitism. I figure it's a combination of the two. Some lower-level dipshit thought he'd try to sneak it by, and no higher-up had enough goddamn sense to say "No to the hell no!"

Had he shown her with a prison cell as background, that would have been fair.

Instead, he used a Jewish star and money. And the context is that, if you've ever read multiple ridiculous conspiracy theories going back centuries, is that there is a secret group of wealthy Jews who control the world, and that certain people, such as Obama and Hillary, would be a tool for those mysterious wealthy Jews. Hitler used the secret Jewish conspiracy group falsehood constantly in his rise to power.

I don't want to vote for him. But there is so much sleaze on the other side of the fence, I will take Trump 1.0 over Nixon 2.0.

Plus, I am really paying attention to the VP choice. With some luck and perhaps a coronary, we could get Newt as President in early 2017, or whenever. I will take THAT any day over HRC.

Field a better Democratic candidate. Let HRC get hit with the FBI now, let the house of cards collapse, hopefully before the convention, and run Biden or maybe Kerry out to get the save. Save us from Trump, save the nation.

Painting absolutely everyone as racist though is bullshit. I am looking for scenarios that have a silver lining to this shitstorm, and HRC isn't it.

This is sort of, but not quite, right. It's not that Jews weren't banned from this line of work, it's that Christians were. Thus, this was one of the few mainstream lines of business -- everybody, Christian, Jew, or whatever, wanted to borrow money -- open to Jews.

By the way, we get our modern word "bank" from the tables (banchi) at which the Jewish moneylenders plied their trade in Venice.

Of the top 10 plays in the MAL playbook, nine of them are "painting absolutely everyone (you disagree with) as racist."

You know, it's not racist to use the word "niggardly". It's stupid as shit, though ...

    You didn't answer the question.

So even if Trump committed the crimes that Nixon committed, you'd still vote for him over Hillary. Got it.

Is there a point at which you would not ?

Even if you don't think Trump was being deliberately anti-Semitic (and I kinda don't, I think they just made a dumb mistake), can you at least see why he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt from so many?
