I'm not so sure about this YF. I know the environs there are, shall we say, cozy. But I worked at my current place a year before I even met some of the other members of my department. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find that there were plenty of people in the Penn State community who'd barely heard of Paterno and had no clue as to who Sandusky was.

I've got a question - is anyone here familiar with when Maryland hired Fridge? I know Sandusky was considered, and, at the time, I was surprised he wasn't selected. Now I suspect folks at Maryland knew or got wind of this before it hit the fan ten years later.

 

Don't know the Maryland situation, but word around Charlottesville has been that Sandusky was quite close to getting the Virginia job at one point but somebody convinced them he spent too much time with the charity to be a head coach.

In other words, they were warned, at least subtly.
