    People who grew up in Kansas wind up on all the groundbreaking tickets. Charles Curtis was the first Native American VP. Eisenhower was the first black president and now Kaine will be Veep to the first female president.

    I'm kinda joking, but there is some interesting stuff out there. Back in the 40s and 50s, elderly people from Ike's mother's Virginia hometown referred to her as "one of the Black Link girls" and her physical appearance suggests maybe she decided she could "pass" after she moved to the Midwest where nobody knew her family.
