If not, the last eight years have probably felt like treading water.

The DNC was a very delicate dance between eight years of Obama but wanting to keep that same path. Democrats usually need moderate to high levels of voter unhappiness (complete with protestors) to keep winning national elections.

I say "usually" as Trump is on the other side. The rules are a bit different for 2016.

 

Given where we were eight years ago, particularly in terms of the economy and foreign affairs, the Obama presidency has been nothing short of spectacular. It could have been even better without an obstructionist Congress.
