Do you remember Ivanka's introduction at the Convention? It might well have been Chelsea speaking.

This is his one shot. He's aging and he's pretty much already poisoned his own well by allowing himself to be pegged as "racist." But Trump the hypothetical 2020 candidate, if he actually cared enough to learn the issues up and down and continue to hone a philosophy, would actually be a fairly interesting candidate. Yes, a lot of this stuff is being fed to him by his savvier new campaign people. But I also don't totally doubt that he kind of "gets it" in ways he didn't months ago when he thought he'd fire-and-brimstone his way to the White House.

FYI, Clinton's leads in the last three Economist/YouGov polls:

    Aug. 10: +7
    Aug. 17: +6
    Aug. 24: +3

What changed is that the media turned on him once he got nomination and he did not anticipate it to his demise. In primary the media loved the show.

Trump thought that he was going to continue to get favorable treatment from Morning Schmoe and Zika

In fairness, they have been destroying Hillary, as well.

But they are coming off as total amateurs with their constant whining about the criticism they have received about their support of Trump. Let it go, you two love birds.

He could have done a much better job with his "pivot" on immigration.

He could have focused on criminals, but also on "sanctuary cities" where illegals are not turned over to the Feds.

When he talked about Bush and Obama's deportations, he needed to point out that we currently have a "deportation force" -- a term he stupidly repeated originally after Chris Matthews used it.

He needs to point out that we have a process in place, that Obama cut back on deportations, and that we can do this well and efficiently.

He also needed to say that we need secure the border, and take steps to stop attracting new illegal immigrants, before additional reforms were implemented.

I think he could have positioned himself as tough, but compassionate.

We don't want to deport the high school valedictorian who's been accepted to Harvard.

We want a process where are border is secure, where we know who is coming here, where we can deport criminals, and -- he needed to stress this point -- where immigrants are not exploited because of their legal status.

Illegal immigration should not be a program that allows farmers to hire lettuce pickers at below market wages, or to supply the 1% with domestic workers who lack benefits.
