Here's an annual hard liquor/cocktail dilemma I have. Here in New England, it will soon be too cool in the evenings for my summer go-to of Tanqueray and tonic, but until late October, it's not usually cold enough of an evening to make a martini or single malt on the rocks feel right. What to do? Sometimes I've tried to middle it by ordering a margarita or a rum fruit drink like a planter's punch, but that doesn't feel quite right either.

My solution: Always drink a manhattan.

That is my wife Alice's solution, but I have an added problem. Manhattans are too sweet for me. I don't care for sweet flavors except fresh fruit.

What about the under-rated old fashion or whiskey sour?
    tom or vodka collins?

I've been wanting to try a boulevardier. It's like a bourbon negroni.

Kirkland Pacific Bold with some Bailey's creamer.

Whiskey Sours are great, my uncle makes them every holiday.

Those drinks don't get the credit they deserve.

Pollinator by Magnify Brewery Fairfield, NJ. Magnify and Cricket Hill are both in Fairfield. Cricket Hill has been around longer, Magnify is better.

Pranqster North Coast Brewing Company in Fort Bragg Cal. it's a Blonde Ale/Balgian Blonde and is decent. Like Belgian Quads better than Blonde Ales. Wife picked it up on the way home from work.
