And isn't there any possibility that if there was a logical, simple, easy, relatively inexpensive path to LEGAL immigration, that most people would do it? I don't think it's really to any Mexican's advantage to be here illegally. It's very very much to the advantage, though, of corporate farmers to have them here illegally, because they can get away with flouting those pesky regulations and if Manuel wants to complain about, it, well, we'll deport him and find somebody else.

Illegal immigration benefits American business. Pure and simple.

Maybe they've decided that "politicians" on both sides of the aisle have corrupted the system to the point that they no longer trust politicians of any party to fix anything and they're going to take their chances with the non-politician.
