Until seeing this, I missed that they lost to their 1-AA cupcake opener again. Wow.

I woke up by accident at 1 am and saw it was still on. Huge win for the Pokes and Bohl. Yes, northern Illinois is a huge win. :)

BYU kicker may never have to buy his own milkshake again in Provo.

Walk-on freshman, first college play, 33-yard winner at the horn.

This is why I don't wager on college football, let alone set the odds ... another great prediction from yours truly.

    Fearless predictions are free!

That said ... if the NW quarterback doesn't fumble near the goal line, the Wildcats win the game AND beat the spread.

I figured a touchdown, missing on the 2 and winning 27-22 and a push. Oh well.

Had UNI spot on to win straight up.

The problem with looking at MAC teams like that is just like the problem with looking at FCS teams like that. You'd better hope your Power Five club isn't thinking that way.

There aren't any walkovers anymore unless you're one of the top 10-15 programs in the country. The depth difference is at least partly nullified by the fact that the underdog knows a victory could make a name for their program for years.

There's a reason why no Power Five team will ever walk into the Fargodome. (I mean, besides the money.)

I attended Washington State's "cupcake opener" and let me tell you, Eastern Washington is a legit 1-AA program. Especially on offense. Do-everything WR Cooper Kupp is a future NFL player for the Eagles, and all their sophomore QB, Gage Gubrud, did in his first career start is throw for 474 yards and 5 TDs -- and run 30 yards for the game-clinching TD.

Actually, the Cougs' defense looked really putrid. Other than an end-zone INT, it did little to stop Eastern Washington after the first quarter. Almost zero pressure on the quarterback, who picked the secondary apart.

WSU could be in for a repeat performance next week as they face hot Boise St. QB Brett Rypien.

Good point. See my post above about Eastern Washington.

In fact, talking to a couple of their fans on our shuttle bus ride after the game, they said — with a straight face — that Eastern's game at Washington State might be the EASIEST of their three non-conference games. They travel to North Dakota State next weekend, then host Northern Iowa on Sept. 17.

Wyoming-NIU game scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start, thanks to TV. That's outright ridiculous, and to make it look like an even stupider decision it was a beautiful afternoon in Laramie.

Thunderstorm moves in (who would have thunk, in that region?), delays game until 10:25 p.m. Game takes 4:14, because of triple OT, lots of passes and commercials, and ends at about 2:30 a.m. local time.

At some point, ADs will stop selling out their fans for TV. Another illustration that we obviously haven't reached that point yet.
