You do know that's how Congressional hearings work, right? Aides to a witness, particularly a current or former public official, give friendly legislators information to help them ask questions that let the witness give his/her side of the story as favorably as possible. It's SOP, and has been since the Washington Administration.

National numbers matter little. It's a 50-state election and Trump would have to win the popular vote by +6 or more to overcome Hillary's substantial electoral vote advantage.
