I wonder what the insurance situation is on the contract. The Nats could end up having a vested interest in Strasburg never pitching again.

Covering hockey, it usually depends on a pre-existing condition. He had arm problems before the big extension -- so it might come down to the specific injury he suffered before and how similar this one is to that

Apparently, the flexor strain been the precursor to Tommy John for a lot of guys in the past. Trainers says it's not a season-ender, but there ain't much season left. Kilgore tweeted that Andrew Miller was out a full month with it, so I suppose it's possible he's back for the playoffs.

Just in case, we should probably start a Strasburg Shutdown II Debate thread.

Trainer says it was from one pitch -- acute, not overuse. That seems a little far-fetched; it can happen on any pitch, but it's hard to believe a guy with that history and velocity isn't doing a little bit of damage every five days.

Fun fact: The Nationals haven't even started paying the $175M contract. That comes next year. I'm thinking he won't opt out after 2019.

Probably strained it rushing to sign that contract.

Villar was considered a space-filler until Arcia was ready early in the season, but he really put it together early on and never let up. Some folks may be noticing now because of the power surge, but he was getting on base and putting himself among the major-league leaders in steals all along.

I wonder if he stays at third base next year. I'm assuming the Brewers are going to give Arcia every opportunity to stay at shortstop going forward. He showed flashes in Houston before coming to the Brewers. Maybe he just needed another shot at full-time duty.

I take it he's been a big boost to your fantasy team? (I'm assuming from the page you posted.) He hasn't drawn a ton of attention for a guy stealing 50 bases, but he should.

If he can get the Kncks and Isles to sign him he can become the first guy to be cut by one of the NY teams in each of the Big 4 sports.

Big weekend in the AL East ...
Yanks get to try to stay hot at home against Tampa.
Orioles head to Detroit one game up on the Tigers for the second wild-card spot.
Boston is in Toronto for a three-game set.
Sox are 1 up on the Jays, 2 up on Baltimore, 4 up on the Yanks.
