Maybe you should read Rev. Wright's entire quote again. Even if it does bring context to his negative remarks about the country.

 

It's more the latter. And I don't really think it was deliberate. It's just reflective of a tendency for cosmopolitans and other elites to assume that what they find attractive about a given arrangement is what anybody should find attractive about it. Yet when others don't fall into line, it never seems to occur to those cosmopolitans/elites that, hey, maybe other people value things differently from me. So they sneer at how ignorant and uninformed those "little people" are.
