A typo in an earlier version of this piece mistakenly referenced “Hans Solo.” The name of the Star Wars character is, of course, Han Solo. And in his a confrontation with Greedo at the Mos Eisley cantina, Han shot first.

Han shot ONLY. I've never understood this meme. If you believe Han shot Greedo because he's a badass, not because he was threatened, then Greedo never had a chance to fire. He was just dead. Han shot FIRST implies there were other shots. There were no other shots. There was just a dead bounty hunter and Han threw some coins on the table and said "Sorry about the mess."

 

The fact that there's a Star Wars reference in it at all is pretty pathetic.

 

It's like Obama talking about "Soldier's Field" and "Cominskey Park."

I don't know why serious people feel so compelled to wade into various nerd cultures. There's no upside. Just land mines.

I don't care what politicians do.

But media, especially those trying to present serious political commentary/analysis, should probably refrain from using works of fiction to illustrate or support their point.
