Anyone who keeps the Cardinals out is deserving.

Orioles lose in Yankee Stadium, benefitting #TeamEntropy. If Orioles, Blue Jays and Tigers win all remaining regular-season games, there's a 3-way tie for two AL Wild Card spots. Still possible for a 4-way tie (including SEA).

Mets clinch first wild card in NL and home field in playoff. Giants keep one-game lead over Cards for second spot by shutting out Dodgers.

If I'm playing the Dodgers in the playoffs, I'm putting every left-hander whose eligible on the roster.

I'd be surprised if the Jays win another game.

    Zimmermann goes 3-0 to Freeman.

Freeman fouls off next pitch, just missed.

Freeman swings and misses, 3-2, and looks at Zimmermann like, You got lucky, Hoss.

Zimmermann throws a terrific pitch that breaks at the ankles ...

... Freeman golfs it over center-field fence.

And the Giants have it lined up with Matt Moore.

Something of a boom-or-bust proposition based on recent results. His last time against the Dodgers, he allowed six runs in one-plus innings. The time before that he was one out from a no-no.

Zimmermann then walks Kemp on 4 pitches.

After throwing 6, 8, then 16, in the first 3 innings, Zimmermann threw 37 pitches in this one, allowing just the 2-run shot, Braves 2-1.

I'd hate to watch him on a regular basis. Picasso didn't paint this much.

He hasn't been healthy since the All-Star Break. I think he's throwing a bunch of get-me-over crap. It was down to him, Matt Boyd (who didn't retire a batter in his last outing) and Anibal Sanchez, who has been mostly dogshit all season.

Down 5-2, Tigers have first and second with no outs ... Braves pitcher Roe makes Miggy look awful on a swinging strikeout, and then Dansby dives to snag JD's hard grounder and from his knees starts a 6-4-3. Braves will be competitive next year.
