There's no doubt NBC's news judgement on this was horrible, but I think it's an extension of the false equivalency tendency that has been rife throughout the campaign. Basically, Trump has 100 percent conflated the release of any non-flattering news story as "not being fair to me" regardless of its veracity. So the bigwigs octuple-check it because if they released it last week, people would have said NBC was trying to influence the debate.

 

Sounds good, but a sound bite does not equal policy.

 

That's not what she's promoting, though.

 

That fracking boom ended two years ago when oil prices started dropping. Now a lot of rigs are sitting idle and places such as Williston are shitting their collective pants because they've spent a bunch on things such as a rec center and watched developers putting up apartment buildings and right that are now sitting empty.

 

Agreed. And there are plenty of Hillary's own missteps in the political realm to hammer her on without going to that card.

 

Yep. So why this tactic? I can't imagine everyone on Team Trump agreed this was the way to go. Just seems like amateur hour.
