BTW, my idea of Romney getting on the ballot only in Utah, and maybe Nevada, would have looked brilliant right now.

Trump and #NeverTrump forces would have been aligned. If you want Trump or Romney, you vote for Trump everywhere, unless you live in Utah or Nevada. There, if you want Romney, you vote for him.

The Republican path to win always got them just to 270, or slightly over.

In this scenario, if no one got to 270, because Romney won Utah or Nevada, the House could have dumped Trump, and elected Romney.

And, for the Trump faithful, they could have pushed especially hard to win by a landslide to avoid this fate.
