He told them in his acceptance speech at the convention that only he could fix things. Only he.

Is this really that damaging for her, though? It has always struck me that Inside The Beltway doesn't penalize folks for backing a loser. And in this case it will be clear for all time that she didn't cost him anything.

I think as many people in that group will respect and admire her for accepting the challenge as will hold against her the things she briefly stood for.

You're probably right. Among the "pros" of either side I suspect there's a strong "the show must go on" attitude ...

It's also possible that he'll fire her and Bannon and say he's doing this his way from here on out.

I'm pretty sure that this was one of those party-appointed representation things.

She should be OK as long as she makes sure that no one has her on tape laughing about being able to save him from some of the consequences of his words and actions.

This has been the most damning thing about Trump, and it's disappointing. Ultimately, and more than anything else, it is what will be his undoing.

People wanted someone else to vote for besides Hillary Clinton, and Trump could have been a legitimate candidate -- whom many would have been willing to forgive his lack of political experience and knowledge, and even many of his sins, if he'd shown respect, an ability to present himself well, and the capacity to listen and learn and grow as he went.

But he just could never keep his mouth shut, or stop tweeting, or decline to take bait or answer back in a poor way, right up until Sunday's debate, which marked the first time he showed any real progress in any of those directions. The repeated missteps and lack of professionalism signaled a disturbing level of stupidity, which is worse than a lack of experience, qualifications or knowledge, and now, it's too little, too late.

If he had made such real steps in the right directions all along, through the primaries through to now (and if James Comey hadn't let Clinton off the hook regarding the emails, of course), he'd be a much more serious and legitimate contender to be President at this point.

Bill Clinton probably inhaled when he smoked pot, which like coke is classified as a Level 1 narcotic so he's just as bad plus a liar.

So if he wasn't Donald Trump?

It's not a matter of her quitting. It's whether her facial muscles can keep forcing that approximation of a human smile without tearing or freezing permanently into place.

That's assuming Bannon isn't pouring gas on the fire. I suspect he's enjoying the torching of the GOP leadership since Breitbart.com has railed against them under his watch.
