MLB Network showed a graphic that the Giants led the majors in losses when leading after 8 innings this year (9 of them).

This was also the first time a team had rallied to win from 3 runs down in the 9th or later in a postseason game since the Mets in Game 6 vs. the Red Sox in 1986. (The two other most-recent instances were also from 1986 — Red Sox vs. Angels in Game 7 and Mets vs. Astros in Game 6. Man, was that a great postseason).

The Mets only trailed the Red Sox by two runs. And I'm pretty sure Red Sox-Angels was Game 5.

Those were great games to watch. I remember exactly where I was for each of them.

As a kid who wanted the Angels to win the 1986 ALCS, the Astros to win the 1986 NLCS and then the Red Sox in the 1986 WS... the results sucked but what drama.

Red Sox in the '86 playoffs were my last assignments for the Boston Phoenix. Pretty good way to go out.

Judging by Crawford's throw last night in the 9th..

... they should have sent Alex Gordon home.

It doesn't matter because of the error and Baez's hit, but, my God, how bad was Heyward's bunt? For $184 million, he can't hit and apparently can't bunt, either. At least he can run, because he did force Crawford's throw, but that was one of the worst bunts in a big situation I've seen. And I watch 100+ White Sox games a year.
