Also, for those saying the Giants should have kept Moore out there ... note that in the other blown leads mentioned above from '86, leaving the starter in bit the team in the ass too.

--Mike Witt tried to finish for California and went single-K-HR before being replaced. Moore was shaky the whole season, but a three-run lead is probably safe.

--Bob Knepper tried to finish for Houston and went triple-single-groundout-double; by the time Dave Smith got in the game, the tying run was at second with one out. Smith was reliable that year. He probably finishes it off if he starts with a clean slate.

If the Angels would have had Enrico Palazzo's strike zone working in Game 5, Witt would have escaped with a win.

I was even fine with 2014 and losing to the Giants in the WS. Didn't expect the Royals to be there and the Giants fans we met at Game 2 and 6 were incredibly classy. Good people.

DeCinces had a man on third, one out in the bottom of the ninth in that fateful game 5, and popped up on the first pitch.
The two games in Boston weren't even close. That Angels team was done when then didn't win game five. 10-4 and 8-1.

Fun fact: Marty Barrett was the MVP of that series.

DeCinces was usually pretty solid in RBI Baseball.

I just don't follow baseball any more until the post season. Can someone explain why the padres traded Trea Turner?

Wasn't aware it was this bad, but when the Rangers were done this year that made them 1-11 in Arlington in the division-series round. I was there for the 1, but I've also been there for two of the 11.

Another crazy thing about that game was that Angels reliever Gary Lucas — who had not hit a batter in four years and hit only seven in 669 career innings — plunked Rich Gedman to get that rally started.

But Posey at first base is just a guy.

A 136 OPS+ (and whatever bump you think he gets from the move) at first isn't just a guy.

I don't think so. In 2012 he put up MVP numbers that compared well at every position -- second in OPS, third in SLG, first in OPS+.

His first-half splits the last two seasons approximate those numbers. Then there is a major tailspin. The last two seasons, he has an HR every 25 PAs in the first half and an HR every 66 PAs in the second half. That's on the heels of a 2014 postseason that he didn't get even one XBH in 77 PAs.

He also was 35th in the league and fourth on his own team in PAs this season. You kind of need your best hitter in the lineup.

Johnny Bench kept catching beyond age 30, but even he took 30-40 games off a year. I don't think the Giants can afford that from Posey.
