    Theo's dream almost comes through

Cubs' Theo Epstein seeks lengthy wild-card process

Before the wildcard was decided, he said: "We hope there's a three-way tie, a 20-inning game to decide who plays on Tuesday, and that the Tuesday game goes about 30 innings."

Biggest thing that concerns me about the Cubs is defense. In the San Francisco series, there were a few errors, but also a few times when the Giants got baserunners after the pitcher failed to cover first, or broke late, or some other sort of mistake.

The Cubs defense was rated by basically every system as one of the greatest of the last few decades.

You are forgetting how many awesome plays they made negating far more baserunners than the one or two late covers.

Do the White Sox actually have fans? I thought whatever they call Comiskey these days was just where they gather the extras for Shameless before shooting.

"It always floors me, sitting here in my Chicago bubble, to realize that 95 percent of the baseball country still has a positive view of Dusty Baker."

Trevor Bauer pushed back from Game 2 to Game 3 because ...

What a time to be alive.

Yes, I'm referring to the fact that it is pretty much considered accepted fact in Chicago that he's awful and destroyed two pitchers' careers and also cost the Cubs a World Series, not to mention losing the team in 2004. I realize that there are people who like him. He keeps getting fired. But it's still weird to come into contact with.

To be fair he probably only ruined Prior's career. Wood already had a problem.

As always needs to be repeated, it wasn't an arguable case of a guy throwing 110 pitches once in awhile. He rode his starters harder than any other manager in baseball that year, by a wide margin. Often with games that weren't in doubt.

OK, let's leave it at that. You don't like him, I do. I know as much about baseball as you do. Push.

I was speaking on the city's collective opinion of him.
