Alou shouldn't have had a hissy fit. Gonzalez should have made the play.

That said, if the fan doesn't interfere with the ball, the Cubs go to and probably win the World Series that year.

Gonzalez booted a ball. Every SS does sometimes. Alou was mad at the ump for not calling interference.

The only villain in that inning was Dusty Baker. If it hadn't been so important for Prior to throw 116 pitches with a double-digit lead in game 2, maybe he has enough in the tank to finish that inning.

No way. He reacted at the fan, not the call. He reacted well before the umpire would have even had a chance to call interference. His hissy fit was directed at Steve Bartman, 100 percent.

I covered the Bartman game. I recall that we were instructed not to name him after the Sun-Times broke his name online. I don't remember how I got that message relayed. I don't think we had portable email back then. Maybe I just saw it when I passed through the office later that night. I was doing the Marlins sider, so it was largely immaterial to me. I think our columnist basically wrote the whole column about how a person who shall remain nameless interfered with the ball. But then later that night, Bartman put out a statement, so, at that point, we were told it was OK to name him.

It was really strange coming back for Game 7. All hell had broken loose less than 24 hours before. None of us figured we'd be back there the next night, yet there we were, and there were the Cubs, warming up for a Game 7 of the NLCS.

(I was also in the venue when J.R. Hildebrand ran into the wall while leading the final lap at Indy. Unfortunately, I wasn't there for Jean Van de Velde, so I can't claim the Triple Crown.)

Donaldson HR. Billy Bean takes another look at the Arizona Fall League roster.

So you were costing them scholarships even before the old, old board?

Indians down 2-0 and clearly need to go to the pen.

    Do they concede this one?

At 2-0? No way. The Blue Jays can score about 30 runs in the next three games if they break loose.

Yeah but you can't keep running Shaw, Miller and Allen out there every day.
