... as a kid, thought that film had something to do with the Rocky movies.

Think Addams Family if Gomez was a transvestite.
A middle-aged white couple straight out of American Gothic breakdown in the middle of nowhere. They take refuge in a mansion home to Rupaul Addams, his minions and a bunch of freaky counter culture ... well, freaks ... there to witness his beef-cake Frankenstein creation. Campy, sexual shenanigans ensue to catchy Broadway numbers complete with dance numbers.

I'm not sure going to a live showing today would be quite the same as it was 30 or 35 years ago. I went a few times when I was in my teens. It was a bit geeky, but it was fun. At the end of the day, it was fun, because it was an organized activity around which to get high or drunk and hang out with your friends. The movie itself isn't that good, but it is kitschy in a way that works really well the first time you see it, but not so much by the third time you see it.

And successfully consummated that final marriage.

  8. I'm one of the few people in the world who enjoys the RHPS as is. No audience participation.
It's a lot like Full Metal Jacket... A really great thing that runs off the rails.
FMJ falls off drastically when they leave boot camp. RHPS falls waaaay off during the dinner scene. Up until then, I love it.

Just for the record, the Brad and Janet characters are not a middle-aged couple.
They're young and recently engaged to be married.

My bad. I had an older Susan Sarandon in my head when I wrote that.

Agreed on FMJ except for one thing - the hunt for the sniper had this really grating, nerve wracking music that raised the edginess and tension (for me, at least) of the last 20 minutes or so of the movie.

A few years ago, I looked up what that music was. I finally found the performer and track.

To me, the last half of FMJ was surprising, because it wasn't your standard Vietnam jungle fighting. The urban combat scene was definitely different from most Vietnam movies, jungle, helicopters, etc.

I really absorbed it and was on edge. And that fucking grating music... Damn. It was like a violin being played incorrectly.

... I've seen the boot camp portion of Full Metal Jacket a number of times, but don't think I've ever seen a minute of the Vietnam portion. Always seem to turn it off for some reason right after Private Pyle goes all Private Pyle.

.... I've also never seen any of the Godfather movies. Not a minute. I have a hard time investing three hours into a movie, and I've just never felt like doing that for the Godfather movies.
    Plus, it insists upon itself.
