Can't think this was done intentionally, but certainly regrettable.

Legally drunk and cocaine in system is not a good mix for a late-night boat excursion.

If it didn't happen this night, it was going to happen some night.

Does any of this surprise anyone? I see the passengers' families are suing for $2 million. You'd think they could get more

    JFC...

The boat, investigators concluded, was traveling at more than 65 miles per hour — just over the top speed of the vessel.

“Fernandez operated [the boat] with his normal faculties impaired, in a reckless manner, at an extreme high rate of speed, in the darkness of the night, in an area with known navigational hazards such as rock jetties and channel markers,” the report concluded.
The families should sue for a helluva lot more than that. The recklessness involved is just astounding.

Extreme speed at night under the influence of alcohol and cocaine is pretty much the definition of reckless driving.

How does one travel at "just over the top speed of the vessel"? ...It went faster than it can?

No clue. Guess that's what happens when the investigation is conducted by the Fish and Wildlife Commission. I get that the accident happened on the water, but is that normal for such bodies to conduct investigations? Guess it might depend on the state.
