It's not just the teachers getting sick, it's their own kids getting sick as well and taking time off to care for them.

But you said you would raise holy hell if a teacher came to work with a cough.

There is someone contagious in the classroom roughly 100 percent of school days.

I wouldn't be too happy if a kid came to school sick, either. But at least, there may be a reason for that, such as the parents don't get PTO from their job, or very little of it, compared to teachers.

Again, this is happening every single day.

You do seem perennially unhappy, though, so maybe that's what's behind it.

And yet, kids usually get more absence days than the teachers get PTO. I wonder why that is?

    Huh?

We've reached the Baron logic portion of the discussion where it's best to disengage.

Tenure is a different issue, but the shortage vs. glut thing is always going on in education.
    It is a short cycle.

Teacher shortage has given way to teacher glut

You would fire every teacher who calls in sick a couple times a month?

I take it you aren't a substitute teacher.

Multiple times a month, every month? Yes. Of course.

Firing people for using their allowed sick time. Good luck with that.
